About the role

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner is an advanced clinical practice registered nurse who provides psychosocial and clinical support services within the Ipswich Hospital Emergency Department to adults who disclose that they are the victim of a sexual assault. 

This position delivers multi-faceted clinical nursing providing expertise in the management of sexual assault including clinical forensic examination and care and guides clinical practice aligned to the Clinical Forensic Medicine Unit processes.

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner:

  • has an expert level of professional clinical practice in sexual assault clinical management and care;
  • has an advanced level of decision making in collaboration with the broader interprofessional team and other stakeholders (e.g. where indicated by the victim - QPS);
  • Expert clinical management of victims of sexual assault;
  • works collectively to apply the principles of good clinical governance; and
  • applies professional and clinical expertise.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrates the ability to apply or acquire specialized knowledge of contemporary nursing practice, skills and theory in sexual assault management and care procedures.   
  • Demonstrates the ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within and across the broad interprofessional team and key stakeholders (including if required - QPS).
  • Ability and interest in undertaking the Certificate in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner course from CQU (course fees paid by QH).
  • Demonstrates ability to use appropriate discretion in the dissemination of clinical information with regard to statutory and common law duties, confidentiality and privacy issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective nursing health professional with capability for high level engagement across the spectrum of stakeholders including patients and families.

Mandatory Requirements:
